Hancock Movie Review

Posted by Blog Man on Tuesday, July 08, 2008 in
My wife and I saw this movie over the weekend at a local theater. Since gas prices are so high we have chosen to play closer to home. My wife was more excites about this movie than I but I quickly saw that I was in for a unique and interesting take on modern day super heroes. Will Smith plays Hancock, an alcoholic who is drowning his personal sorrows with booze. He essentially woke up in a hospital with super human powers. He can fly and had the ability to do anything without injury. The city of Los Angeles where the story takes place does not embrace him as would normally be the case for a super hero. Hancock has an unorthodox way of going about his business that is caused more damage than he fixes. He soon finds a friend played by Jason Bateman who tries to reinvent Hancock into a public relations doll. He does succeed but not without some problems which serve up the interesting plot turn of the film.

I would recommend this movie to anyone (adults only) looking to be entertained and to see a fresh look at super hero characters.

CCA Convention in Las Vegas

Posted by Blog Man on Sunday, June 29, 2008 in , , , ,
The Career College Association recently held their annual convention in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. I was an attendee and the President of my college was a speaker. This was only my second visit to Las Vegas and my second CCA convention. My wife and I had previously visited Las Vegas for a mini vacation where we stayed at the Bellagio.

During this trip I stayed at the Luxor which like many other Vegas hotels is currently under renovation. The hotel room was simple and met initial expectations. However, the age of the hotel showed through. there were obvious signs of wear and tear, the carpet was coming up from the hallway floors, and there were numerous burn marks on the walls from where visitors extinguished their cigarettes. The bed was harder than most hotel beds and the pillows were very uncomfortable. Overall, the Luxor does have some unique features and entertainment worth seeing but I prefer other Vegas hotels.

On the other hand, the CCA convention which was at Mandalay Bay was very well executed. The food was average but the staff and facilities were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the number of seminars and the hotel was elegant. Kudos to the CCA for a wonderful experience.

AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem

Posted by Blog Man on Thursday, June 05, 2008 in , , ,
All I can say is this is one of the worst sequels created for one of the best movie franchises ever conceived. My wife and I actually stopped watching the movie because of one scene where the alien attacked a pregnant woman. Call us old fashioned but some things are not meant to be part of any film. I was so disgusted and surprised by it that I spent the next hour emailing every executive email I could find at Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation. Do not waste your time watching this film.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Posted by Blog Man on Thursday, June 05, 2008 in , ,
My wife and i saw this movie and it was entertaining...but. If you grew up with the first three installments you might be a little disappointed. The missing lack of action and suspense and the poor acting of Indy's love interest (Marion Ravenwood-actress Karen Allen) from the Raiders of the Lost Ark are easy to realize. It is also difficult to see past the new CG special effects that seem to all feel the same in today's movies. In the end, it is worth the big screen experience although you may need to lower your expectations.
